Summer is the Best Time to Play Very Bargain Priced Golf in the Phoenix area
If you adore golf like I do you need to visit the picturesque state of Arizona, in particular the Phoenix regional area. With over 325 sun filled days a year and more than 300 golf courses in the region this is truly a golf lover’s mecca. Numerous golf pros have homes in the Scottsdale area. The legendary golf club maker PING is also located here in Scottsdale.
Now to the point, if you come to Phoenix in the summer you won't believe how inexpensive green fees can be. What, you say… am I mad! Well, maybe a little, but at that time of year would you believe you can actually play 18 holes of golf on some courses for under $10.00! There is a huge amount of competition for your golfing money, especially with the current state of our economy. I have actually played Springfield Lakes in Chandler several times this summer for $12.50. That’s eighteen holes with a cart and I have heard them offering deals for $8.00!
The trick to playing Phoenix golf in the summer months is fairly clear… tee off EARLY. As you can imagine Phoenix summers are very warm, and can also be somewhat humid at times. Tee off by 6am and you should have it made. Be aware that some courses do not allow tee times earlier than 6am. The advantages to getting on the course early are as follows: 1) Cut-rate golf, what more do I need to say. 2) If you got your tee time far enough in advance you should be the first one on the course. That means there is no one in front of you. 3) In addition to number 2, if you are the first one on the course and tee off at 5:30am you’re through by 9am before it gets unbarebly warm.
Summer time golf prices usually range from about $15.00 - $75.00 per round. High end or exclusive golf courses can cost well over $200 per round in the winter months. Now you can see why it's hard to beat summer golf here!
If you are coming from out of state this is also the least expensive time of year for both air fare and hotels/resorts. You can on average book rooms in a resort hotel at half the price you would pay in the winter. When you're done golfing float in the pool the rest of the day with your favorite cocktail.
Just a couple other words of advice for summer golf in Phoenix. Take plenty of water and stay hydrated, dehydration can sneak up on you rapidly. Put on plenty of 30spf sunscreen and a large brimmed hat is also recommended. Sun shades are also a must. I hope to see you on the links!
