Seriously, my pair of custom etnies helped me become a stronger skateboarder. Hard to believe when you read it at first, but consider the following
Remember when you were a little kid the high you would get when you received a brand new pair of shoes? Especially if they were pumps, had lights, air bubbles or some other cool feature that made you feel like Superman. I can remember that I did and know a lot of people that have talked about feeling like they could suddenly jump higher, were unstoppable or had otherwise been given some divine form of superhuman power. I would run around for days showing off to everyone possible and talking about my shoes.
Today, now that almost every conceivable and even inconceivable type of shoe has been created, worn and ran out of style, getting a new pair of shoes just isn't as cool as it used to be, especially when you know that pretty much 100 million other cats have the exact same shoes. This is where custom etnies can be so special.
I've used a lot of skate shoes and can still remember when almost all were pretty much the same, so chillin with my skaters would mean that we were sporting the same shoes. I decided to get real and give the "Design Your Own" feature a chance and made my very first custom skate shoes. They were black and had my nickname "Chavo" embroidered in white on the sides and let me tell you, they were much better than those "make your own custom skate shoes by spray painting some old crappy canvas shoes that you find laying in the back of the garage" kind of shoes. If you know etnies, then you know that they produce top quality skate shoes that are long lasting and with a ton of possible combinations, you can feel safe that your custom etnies are the only ones of their kind.
Here's how I am a better skateboarder because of this. To make it clear, no, the custom etnies do not give special abilities that allow you to ollie higher, complete megaflips or fly (sorry to disappoint!), but what they did provide for me was improvement on a higher level. Skateboarding is all about being yourself and it may seem strange, but when you feel in your element, that you are individual and unique, you let your own style to flow through your skating. For me, this meant skating faster, smoother and most importantly, with a smile, with the knowledge that my new kicks were the only ones of their kind in town.
