The Bluegrass State has rugged mountains, clear lakes and beautiful woods for the visitor to enjoy. The best way to enjoy the scenery and outdoor pursuits is to stay on one of the Kentucky campgrounds. There are several, offering a variety of terrain and amenities for tent campers and RV users.

The Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center combines the joys of camping with a Christian faith community. This retreat in the mountains is just an hour’s drive from Lexington and offers a spiritual experience for individuals and groups. It’s a great place for the active too and there are facilities for volleyball, soccer and basketball.

Harriman State Park contains Beaver Pond Campgrounds. This New York camping site allows tents, trailers and larger vehicles. The amenities include shower units, a laundry, picnic areas and boat launching sites. The site is close to beaches and the Stony Point Battlefield State historic site.

Bowman Lake State Park is in a lovely shaded area of hardwood and evergreen trees. There is a sandy lakefront and this is the New York camping ground to come for trout fishing as the lake is well stocked. Swimming is also allowed and there are nature trails and picnic facilities. It’s also a favorite destination for birdwatchers. It’s open in winter and activities include snowmobiling and cross country skiing.

The most important piece of outdoor camping equipment is the tent. If you buy the wrong tent, the entire trip is going to be miserable. If you need coffee in the morning, get a travel coffee maker or one made for camping. One popular piece of outdoor camping equipment is the outdoor toilet. If your camp area has no restroom, this is a must have, especially if you are a woman. However, you also have to remember not to go overboard when you are buying outdoor camping equipment. Of course, you don’t necessarily have to take a dedicated camping chair with you. If you’re not going on a very long hike, you can actually take outdoor patio furniture with you. An outdoor folding chair will be more substantial than a camping chair, and therefore more difficult to carry. On the plus side, it will also be much more comfortable to sit in. If you aren’t hiking more than 1 mile, or if the hike is low and flat, you might think about taking some standard outdoor furniture with you. If everyone carries one folding chair, no one is seriously burdened.

One of the great things about camping chairs is how versatile they are. Not only can use them for sitting in, but you can also use them for a pillow. If you have a particularly high quality one, you might even be able to jury rig something to set it up like a hammock. I have a friend who used to do this all the time, and although it looked treacherous, he never fell! Best of all, your average camping chair doesn’t cost very much money. You should be able to find one for under 30 dollars if you look carefully.
